Noida Foundation Day

New Okhla Industrial Development Area or NOIDA as we all fondly call it came into being on April 17, 1976. Every year 17th day of April is celebrated as 'Noida Foundation Day' or simply 'Noida Day'.

By the same token Noida Day was celebrated on April 17, 2013 this year with much fervor among festivities marked by grand Noida-shaped-cake-cutting. A havan ceremony, cultural programs and sporting events too were organized to mark the occasion.  NOIDA Chief Executive Officer Rama Raman in his address provided insights into the development of the city. He quoted that Noida is on fast development mode. Providing better civic amenities is on top priority besides developing new projects.

Initially conceived as an industrial hub NOIDA is soon becoming a top destination for Housing, Health, Education and Entertainment in the country.

Noida has grown beyond expectation. The high rise buildings are cause of concern. Proper safety measures need to be incorporated in these structures. On the occasion, Sector 37 underpass was also opened for public. The state government has proposed N1 plan for Noida. As per the plan, the city will be given top priority in all development activities and services.

“Noida with its international standard infrastructure has emerged as a world-class city.” 
“With well-planned roads, excellent traffic management system and landscaped green belts, including the up-market residential areas, people take along a good experience when they visit Noida. However, commuters need to co-operate with the police and administration to keep the traffic in order.” 

Prakash Singh, former Police Chief of Uttar Pradesh and now a resident of Noida. Published in Hindustan Times; April 16, 2012: 
“Noida could have been the showcase of UP. It could have been another Chandigarh to be proud of. But it’s a story of missed opportunities. Parts of Noida are well maintained,but most of the mohallas have even today the appearance of a village. Shops have come up, business is thriving, but the roads have potholes, the drains arestinking and there is garbage littered all around.” 

Noida Authority chairman Mohinder Singh told to PTI on the occasion of Foundation Day. Published in IBNLive; April 17, 2011: 
"Besides thrust on providing international level infrastructure, we are keen on providing better civic amenities and free flow of traffic. Over 16 flyovers and underpasses are planned to be developed in next three years. Now Noida will be integrated with other two cities of Greater Noida and Yamuna Expressway City. Their master-plans have been unified into a single plan. Rs 21,000 crore has been approved for 2011-12 for development of the three cities."
"Work on Noida to Greater Noida Metro Rail project would start soon. Though we are awaiting approval for Airport, we have earmarked the land for aviation hub. Noida Metro's connectivity to South Delhi has been approved." 
Besides approval for widening of Kalindi Kunj Yamuna Bridge to eight-lane, four more bridges on Yamuna in Greater Noida has been given approval, he added.
